Bringing home the silverware

Roebuck Estates award-winning team 2019

We’re off to a sparkling start!

We attended the Wine GB Awards Ceremony at the iconic Vintner’s Hall in London earlier this week to collect a Gold medal for our Classic Cuvée 2014. Wine producers from up-and-down the country gathered in their finest attire to celebrate the successes of our thriving domestic wine industry.

The Wine GB Awards are judged by a high calibre of wine experts, mostly Masters of Wine, through a rigorous process of “blind” tastings taking place over several days. The medal results are announced shortly after the competition concludes. However, this year, breaking with tradition, the highly anticipated trophy results were kept firmly under wraps until the day of the ceremony.

Proceedings kicked off with a free-pour tasting of the Gold medal wines. Producers gathered eagerly around the tables to swirl, sniff and sip their way through the winning wines. The excitement in the room was infectious. It’s such a great time to be a part of the UK wine scene! After some essential schmoozing, it was time to get down to serious business as lunch was about to be served and the trophies announced.

To our complete surprise but absolute delight, we picked up not one but two prestigious trophies, both new introductions this year – Mike Roberts MBE Best Classic Cuvée Vintage Trophy (shown below) and Rankin Newcomer of the Year 2019 Trophy.

Mike Roberts, founder of Ridgeview winery, was an iconic and inspirational figure who helped shape and build the English wine industry into what it is today. In its inaugural year, the trophy honours the producer that creates the best vintage classic blend, a style Mike championed ever since the earliest Ridgeview vintages. It was an immense honour to be the first recipient of this prestigious trophy. A few days later, whilst still floating on cloud nine, we received the South East Wine of the Year Trophy at the Wine GB regional awards. Since its inception in 1984, it has become a highly regarded and sought after trophy. We are incredibly proud to have our name engraved alongside world-class English wine producers like Ridgeview, Gusbourne and Wiston Estate.

What an amazing week! How are we ever going to top that?!
