Situated in the heart of the South Downs National Park, our vineyards are a natural habitat for an extraordinary collection of wildflowers, deer, hare, birds and so much more. Minimising our environmental impact and maximising conservation and biodiversity lies at the core of everything that we do. We have enormous respect for our beautiful surroundings and aim to protect our environment as best we can and in every way possible.
We are incredibly proud to be one of the founding members of the Sustainable Wines of Great Britain (SWGB) certification scheme. Our experienced vineyard crew have been working tremendously hard to ensure that our sites meet the exacting standards required to be certified under the SWGB scheme. It is all thanks to their absolute dedication and commitment to sustainable vineyard management that we have been awarded our certification mark and we will continue to build on our sustainable credentials where we possibly can.
During the winter months we bring in a flock of Sussex sheep who act as natural lawnmowers happily grazing on the grass in-between the rows. By doing this, we are able to reduce our tractor usage in the vineyard and minimise our environmental impact. Our woolly friends also furnish our soils with the finest natural fertiliser there is. It’s a win-win situation for all – the shepherd gets a well-fed flock and we end up with a pristine, well-manicured site.
It is firmly our belief that a hands-on approach in the vineyard is key to producing high-quality sparkling wines and preserving our natural surroundings. We use a sophisticated data monitoring system – Sector Mentor to assess and analyse what is happening at each site on a daily basis. Armed with vital data, our vineyard crew can be incredibly targetted in their approach, managing each plot on a block-by-block, row-by-row basis according to its unique topography.
Every element of our packaging has been carefully crafted and designed with our sustainability values in mind. We use Absolute Greenline neck foils which are produced from plant-based polyethylene derived from sugar cane and printed using water-based ink. Our wine boxes are fully recyclable and we are wholly committed to working with suppliers who also share our environmental ethos.
