Winning Gold in Wine GB Awards

Oz Clarke presents Gold Medal in Wine GB Awards to James Mead

Looking back fondly on a special vintage.

We’ve been celebrating some very exciting news this month – our Classic Cuvée 2014 was awarded a Gold medal in the Wine GB Awards. This competition recognises the achievements of our flourishing domestic wine industry and attracts the cream of the crop from vineyards and wineries across the UK. Hundreds of wines are meticulously judged by highly respected wine experts, mostly Masters of Wine, through a rigorous process of “blind” tastings. This takes place over several days in June at the Institute of Masters of Wine in London.

For our flagship wine, we aspire to create a ‘house style’ that has plenty of depth, richness and complexity. 2014 was, unquestionably, a special vintage as it blessed us with an abundance of ripe, quality fruit. So, from the get-go, we quietly sensed that we’d have a terrific wine on our hands in a few years’ time.

Roebuck Estates Classic Cuvée 2014 wins Gold medal

It’s always terribly nerve-racking releasing a new wine as you want everyone to love it as much as you do. It also takes a great deal of time, hard work and passion to create a traditional-method sparkling wine. So, when we found out that we’d won a Gold medal, we were utterly delighted! This is what Chair Judge, Susie Barrie MW (susieandpeter.com) said about our wine:

“This sparkling wine is a delicious blend of 47% Chardonnay with 38% Pinot Noir and 15% Pinot Meunier that exudes spice, truffle and baked bread aromas followed by a dry (7g/l) but rounded and creamy palate with overtones of caramelised nuts.”
