Tasting Note

Attractive golden copper hue. Delightful bouquet of ripe stone and citrus fruits lifted by floral notes. Baked apples on the palate are layered with notes of brioche and toasted almonds, characteristic of a generous bottle-ageing. A rich, yet beautifully balanced wine with delicate bubbles, a silky texture and a long-lingering finish.

Blending and Ageing

Our Blanc de Noirs 2015 is crafted exclusively from hand-picked Pinot Noir grapes grown at our exceptional Roman Villa Vineyard. After careful selection, the grapes are whole-bunch pressed and partially fermented in the finest French oak casks. A generous lees ageing for a minimum of 48 months gives this wine depth, complexity and richness. It is drinking well now but will undoubtedly, continue to improve with bottle age.

Vintage Description

The winter preceding the 2015 growing season was a cold one which vines tend to enjoy as it encourages a well-earned rest. Spring arrived later than usual with budburst taking place in early April, thankfully avoiding the frosts. Cooler temperatures in August slowed the growing season down, resulting in a slightly later than normal veraison. By harvest time, the fruit was ripe with perfect acids and we could be incredibly exact on picking dates ensuring optimal levels of sugar, acidity and aromatics.

“Roebuck Estates have a handful of vineyards in Sussex and their wines are gaining some traction with the wine cognoscenti. I was seriously impressed with their 2015 vintage which is rich, intense and yeasty and has mature fruit notes of citrus and baked apples. A very special treat.”                                 Will Lyons, The Sunday Times

“Roebuck’s Classic Cuvée 2014 won a gold in the WineGB awards last year and their latest release is the brilliant, elegantly bottled Blanc de Noirs 2015 made entirely from pinot noir grapes grown near the site of the ancient Roman villa at Petworth in West Sussex, which has really individual depth of rich, nutty, lingering flavours stemming from fermentation in French oak and four years lees ageing in the bottle.”  Terry Kirby, Independent.

“I loved the first wine (2014 Classic Cuvée) I tried from this estate last year. This is another mightily impressive bottle from a single vineyard of pinot noir in West Sussex – it is complex and intense with red fruits, cashews and poached pear.”  Hamish Anderson, Telegraph Magazine

“The 2015 Blanc de Noirs, made from 100% Pinot Noir, has a delightful nose of strawberry, orange blossom, white peach and a touch of rosehip, all very elegant and delineated. The palate is sharp on the entry, showing a touch of bitter lemon that combines well with the subtle red fruit elements of raspberry and strawberry. Delivering moderate weight and fine salinity toward the finish, overall this is a well-crafted Blanc de Noirs.”  Neal Martin, Vinous.com

“Pale bronze colour. Pretty Pinot perfume on the nose. Mouth-filling mature fruit on the nose.”  Jancis Robinson.
